Manhattan Bridge Club Lesson Schedule

The Lesson Program

All lessons are under the direct supervision of Jeff Bayone and Jesus Arias, owners of the club. Jeff is also the author of the beginner's book, It's Bridge Baby. Additional instructors are Tom Ng, Sherry Ann Kavaler, Irma Schulman, and Barbara McNair.

Beginner Course: Just what you might expect, the basics, but with a twist. You start playing the moment you sit down, immediately getting the idea of the game. Our common-sense, no memorization approach should have you feeling comfortable at the table by the second or third lesson. By the fourth lesson students often come early or stay late for impromptu play.

Highlights include:

·                      Most of the teaching is hands on, playing right from the start ["feeling the cards"] rather than the old fashioned blackboard lecture style that’s boring and ineffective.

·                      A Common Sense approach requiring little need to memorize. Can’t forget what you didn’t memorize in the first place.

·                      Small classes - three or four tables at most – with experienced, fun teachers [Irma Schulman and Barbara McNair].

·                      Eight 2 hour lessons, plus a copy of It's Bridge, Baby, for $200.

·                      For details call Jeff Bayone at the club, (212)845-0153 or email us at mbc@nyct.net.

ADVANCED BEGINNERS: For those who have completed the beginners course or have played some bridge [usually 30 or 40 years ago!]. Includes modern bidding-with some conventions; basic card play and defense; signaling, etc. Three to four practice play hands are thoroughly analyzed each week.

Why wait?  If you are not a true beginner, but have some bridge experience, call us and join one of our ongoing series.

·                      Call Jeff for schedule of classes [212 845-0153].

INTERMEDIATE: How not to think like a beginner. Includes the correct way to count the distribution of all the suits and all the hands at the table; what you should know about the hand at trick one; counting tricks as declarer and defender; preemptive bidding, balancing, negative doubles, distributional bids, and more advanced play technique. Includes many new conventions.4 to 8 practice hands are thoroughly analyzed every session.
